Max Lucado~  Max on Life
WOW! Guiding spiritual comfort! 5 Stars. Lovely book, writing style is fun to read, spiritual theme always woven thru each story, this is a book you won't want to pass along you find yourself keeping!  Over his career as Pastor and Author Max has received many letters, some have been in earlier books-here he selected 172 letters, asking him questions. They range from:  a ~7 yr old who is being punished for pulling a fire alarm, asking Max how to "make it right" to:  Someone who is "embarrassed about having trouble because they can't seem to pray for more than a few minutes before being distracted" asking Max "what does this mean? What is wrong?"  Here Is where Max Lucado stands out- He responds in a way that not only answers the question, But does so by telling an enchanting story that includes Scripture Verses to support it. The simplicity and ease of Lucados' writing style allows us see ourselves in many of the pages, by end of the letter you feel it relevant to your life, showing you that you can apply this story~this life experience~to your self easily. They are all quick pages 1-1/2, so it is easy to read a letter and let it simmer with you. Put the book down, come back later. I like the down to earth, relate able style. You will feel like you are having a conversation with a close friend, that's his writing style, Not preachy, not talking down to you, not fire and brimstone, comfortable. He treats you-the reader as a person not a page or piece of paper. Highly recommend.

You can see in the photos above how many notes I have taken-post its-journal-note paper
There was just so much that I looked up in the bible and that Max Lucado said that were really profound~ in a day to day simple way that I felt~ WOW~  I NEED to record this so that I can share this with my husband, my best friend, my young son, my adult daughter....and so on and so on... suddenly I am thinking of all of these people that
it is really vitally important that I feel I need to share this with.  I feel it is finally a conversation on a level we can all have AND talk about AND understand and stay on in the conversation without losing brain cells~because they go old King James or something and lose us totally~Max is just common talk with  scripture  mixed with eternal life talk. I took notes and will re-read, to be sure I have it right, and share.

                                                           forth ..and chip not eating

This Little Prayer Of Mine

This Little Prayer Of Mine  by Anthony DeStefano  Illustrations by Mark Elliot
The 1st thing I noticed was the size of this charming book a perfectly square 8 1/2x 8 1/2  making it, I believe, easy to hold for even the most wee little reader. As you open the book the story begins with a young boy and small girl kneeling, praying bedside with their backs to us, with mom quietly peering in and listening  at the door.
                                             "I know you're up in heaven,God,
and can hear my voice from there.
~~We turn the  page
                                                     "I'm just a little child.
Will you answer my short prayer"
The illustration for those two lines covers both pages, in the very same bedroom with same two children-the picture is just turned around so we see them now from the front.  The room has a much cozier feel because see each child's face, sweet little girl with pig tails, the boy looking at her, both in fuzzy sleepers, kneeling, hands in prayer, elbows on the bed, adorable silly teddy bear, along with toys, baseball, rocket, airplane, scattered on the top of the bed spread.   The room also has a big window on the left side of the bed just a few inches from headboard,  showing a dark night sky with a hazy full moon.

The illustrations are what make the story really come to life, soft muted tones almost like watercolors. What is wonderful as the child's prayer continues in a slow rhyme, the illustrations just take you `there'. From a cute puppy tearing apart a doll to showing the boy struggling to make the right choice about going to circus or to school? Many pages with small children from diverse backgrounds blend  in, giving a multicultural touch, but not in your face.  It addresses almost every race thru, the pictures of the children. It even has a group of kids huddled together playing a hand held Nintendo. This was pointed out to me by my 12 yr old son who I asked to read the book with me so I could see what he thought of it at his age level. He enjoyed it, and found the pictures and the rhyming enjoyable, keeping even him interested. The illustrations give the book the ability to up the age level of readers.

The prayer itself is sweet, it shows a child `talking' to God -Thanking God-making promises to God, telling God his troubles, tells God he is scared, lonely, asking God for signs ....
toward the end the boys says :
`But when I trust in, my God and in your plan for me ,
I know there's nothing in the world that I can't do or be.'
It is clear he is growing thru this and this prayer has a beautiful learning curve through out.
I liked this book. I think every child would be able to relate to the child in this book. I think every child can make this prayer their own. I totally recommend this book. It is charming  sweet book to share and, talk about. Everyone will enjoy the illustrations.

books on order and arrived

Sat April 16 2011
Books ordered from booksneeze.com  and  waterbrookmultnomah.com
I thought I would see how long each takes to arrive. Then the reading begins. What fun. We have to find something for Chip so I will look thru my book case and choose him a book.
************************************************************
Booksneeze arrived promptly on  Thursday April 21, complete with nice invoice  explaining everything and thanking for services and saying if any issues let them know.
very classy.

waterbrookmultnomah  sent an really detailed lovely e-mail saying the book was q-ued to ship  and would be here in 7-10 days but did no arrive for 2 weeks?  oh well they say the faster I get done the faster I can get the next book and in the mix for big prizes  haha
I  can tell you I will not ever be in that mix I have seen the ones with those numbers.
It is a Christian site But, I was sent an  Email that they had some...`not appropriate' or `self tampering' voting-that made the same people wim  over and over? Hmm .. SO, they just redid the judging system because of some flaw in the voting. yep... not to hard to see why.. the same handful keep winning over and over and over and their numbers are 90 times more than  humanly possible ??  oh well. I actually read the entire book-even when I would rather rip my hair out strand by strand as with one of the books I am reading now..BUT I am still reading `EVERY' single page
thinking MAYBE something will happen to change the writing..I am even taking notes-looking for something good in it...(even tho If I had a knife I might rather slash my wrists)....BUT I am still reading it....until the end..thankfull I am ..almost....done   auughhh... :>)

Please if you read any of this consider being a follower..thanks soo much.

Books & Product Reviews

This site is going to be used for reviewing books and products. I love to read so I am going to use this to share my thoughts on Christian books.
As you can see everyone in the family enjoys books .... some of us `read' in diferent ways, as long as we `digest' our love of words... hopefully
